Surviving COVID-19: Life in lockdown

Original post date: March 27, 2020; updated March 3, 2023

First of all, I hope that you and your family are safe at home.

It has been said many times over the last few weeks that these are challenging times. It is unlike anything any of us has experienced in our lifetime. This pandemic has changed our lives more than we know.

Keeping your sanity

The prospect of working from home was an option given to few and in selected industries but now, we all have to do it. I applaud the mums and dads who have to keep their kids entertained. We know it isn't an easy task. So, how does one keep it together?

Here are our top 5 survival tips:

  • Keep a routine - this will help you keep your focus and lessen the impact of the change
  • Exercise together - keeps you fit and gives you 'social distancing' from your fridge
  • Start spring cleaning - the best time to do this with everyone helping out
  • Volunteer - if you've got a few hours to spare, why not volunteer
  • Schedule a virtual meet up with friends - talking to someone, especially if you are on your own and self-isolating, lifts the spirits

How can we help?

One of the things we like to do is cook. We cook all sorts of cuisines at our home and not just Philippine dishes, although by default we would do a lot more Southeast Asian dishes. We can help you come up with dishes to cook at home with what you've got. We know that ingredients can be a bit tricky to get these days, so, let's make this a journey of discovery.

What do you need to do?

To help us help you, why not post what you have in your fridge and cupboards and we can work on a dish you can cook with it. Take a picture of these ingredients, post it on our Facebook Page, Instagram and/or Twitter handle and we will reply with a dish suggestion.

We are in this together.

Cooking is our language of love and vehicle to help everyone. Cooking is also therapeutic and can help keep kids entertained if you involve them in the process. Let's turn this situation into something positive.

Looking forward to seeing your posts!
