From Zoology to Business: A UPLB Journey

It's not every day that a Zoology graduate gets recognized for their entrepreneurial achievements, especially by a university renowned for its scientific prowess. So, you can imagine my surprise and delight when I received the 2024 College Distinguished Alumni Award for Championing Entrepreneurship in a Foreign Land from my alma mater, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Arts and Sciences.

The award was presented at the 106th UPLB Loyalty Day on October 8th, 2024, at Baker Hall, a place filled with so many memories of my time as a BS Zoology student back in the late 80s. Receiving this recognition brought a wave of nostalgia and a deep sense of gratitude.

It's truly an honour to be acknowledged by UPLB, an institution that instilled in me the values of critical thinking, perseverance, and a passion for knowledge. While my journey took me from the world of science to the realm of business, the foundation I built at UPLB has been instrumental in my success.

This award is particularly meaningful because it highlights the growing recognition of entrepreneurship and its impact, even in a traditionally scientific environment. It shows that UPLB values the application of knowledge and skills in diverse fields, fostering innovation and encouraging graduates to make a difference in various ways.

I am deeply grateful to UPLB and the College of Arts and Sciences for this incredible honour. It's a testament to the power of education and the enduring spirit of UPLB, which continues to inspire its alumni to excel in their chosen paths, whether in science, business, or any other field.

This award has renewed my commitment to championing entrepreneurship, to fostering innovation, and to making a positive impact on the world. It's a reminder that no matter where life takes us, the lessons we learn and the values we embrace at UPLB will always stay with us.

Mabuhay ang UPLB!
